My cat is spoiled rotten and she gives me pretty reliable signs. One of her least endearing habits is to bring me dead mice. Most cats will do this from time to time. When I'm working on my computer with my legs hanging down, she will come and rub against them. Likewise when I'm cooking. She jumps on the bed when I make it up and plays under the covers. She rubs the sides of her head on me the most, because this is where her scent glands are - humans can't detect the smell, but other cats can. She has marked me as hers because she loves me. When I pick her up, she lies comfortably in my arms and doesn't struggle to get away because she trusts me not to drop her, hurt her or make her stay in an uncomfortable position. When she sits on my lap, she kneads me (always a sign of a very contented cat) and purrs. Any time a cat is purring, it is either very happy or very distressed (cats in shock and females in labour purr to calm themselves down.) She sleeps in my bed at night, usually under the covers with me, and lies next to me purring. When I pet her, she puts up her head every time my hand comes down and rubs all over it. I love my cat. And I think she loves me back.

My cats show their affection when they rub up against my leg
In a way yes they do. They show affection and expect to receive affection. Why they are ignored, you will be ignored.
To show affection towards one another.
Certainly. Dogs can too. Even cats.
Yes, cats do also lick for kisses too just like dogs do. I have 3 cats and they always show me affection when I return home. They do it to each other to affection as well its not just to stay nice and groomed!
To show Affection - if they lick and nibble you they are accepting you as a close friend and a member of there family
Scientists believe cats lick their humans to show affection as we show them through petting. But that's about it....................
A cat might lick a dog out of affection. Cats often lick each other both to clean hard to reach spots, and as a kind of social bonding. A cat that has been raised with dogs might lick a dog for the same reasons.
they definetly do cause cats are show offs well most of them. cats are also better than dogs, dogs stay there doing 3 things sleeping peeing and drinking
Cats putting paws on your face is a sign of affection. As long as they are doing so gently, it is just a way to show you that they like you.
Cats do indeed love. Perhaps not on the level of humans but they do show affection. Shows of affection are things like purring when you or something else they love is near, attempting to rub against you or your other pets and trying to groom you. - Astraea Ann
Not only is it just comforting to the cats to know that their owner is interacting with them, but it allows the cats to listen to their owner's tone of voice and determine their owner's behavior a little better. Some cats actually do respond to words like 'dinner' and 'come on'. Talking directly to the cat, with eye contact, will show your pet that it hasn't been forgotten or that something is happening to him. Also, it would be kind of weird being silent with a favorite pet, and owners like me just like to either pretend (?) that their cat can understand them, or we just get into the habit of explaining things or letting out things to them.
