Changing a tap washer is quite easy. Making sure you have the right size washer at hand first, close off the valve feeding that tap or the main valve to the property. Depending on how the head of the tap is on the actual headpart or whether its a garden tap in which case the headpart just comes out. If there is a head on the tap, normally a small screw will be holding it on. Remove the head and the cover hiding the headpart and take the appropriate spanner and loosen the head part. Once off, take the washer off the jumper, and then place the headpart back, dont overtighten it. Cheers brad.

A "handyman" can probably do lots of things. Here is the problems with a "handyman".
1-Does your area allow handymen to do Plumbing repairs? CA allows it, if they are under$500.
2-Does he know how to change a washer?
3-Does he have the tools to change the washer?
4-Does he know how to match the washer on the faucet with a new one?
5-Is he going to charge you by the hour to figure all this out?
6-Is he insured?
7-Does he warranty his work?
I am sure there are other concerns as well i would have with a handyman touching any of my crucial systems in my home. Saving a few dollars, really isn't worth the gamble when it comes to handymen. And you may actually pay more for a handyman if he has to charge you for his time and tools to figure out how to do the job. And then you may wonder if it is done correctly.
