On the 1995 quest van , the Transmission Fluid pan is on the drivers side . It has a drain plug and you simply put a catch pan under the plug area and remove the plug . If the engine has been run , it will be hot and the transmission fluid will also be very hot . Precautions should be taken so as to not burn yourself . If you're going to also replace the transmission filter , you have to remove the fluid pan ( the large piece that the drain plug is part of ) . There will be some fluid left in the pan as parts of the pan are below the drain plug level. The filter is attached by several bolts that hold it in place . Replace the filter making sure the proper length bolts go in the correct holes . Clean the pan out noting the two large round magnets . Clean them as well and replace them in their original location . Then replace the fluid pan ( with a new gasket ) and make sure the drain plug is reinstalled and tight . You then pull the transmission dipstick out of it's tube . This is where the transmission fluid is refilled . Make sure you have the proper fluid and put in the proper amount . Remember , too much fluid is as bad as too little fluid ! Check the level as you go and when it's close to the correct amount , put the dipstick back in and start the engine . Hold the brake and slowly put the transmission into each gear , hesitating between each movement . After a few cycles through the gears , put it back into neutral and check to see if you have any leaks . If all is okay , take the vehicle out for a short drive and see if it shifts normally . When you return from the drive , put the transmission into park with the parking brake on ! Then recheck your dipstick level . If more is needed , add it but be sure not to overfill it ! After a few days , check it again .
