From 1986-2003, you warm up the engine. Take it for a 10 minute ride. Then let the motorcycle sit on the side stand for about 2 minutes. under the bike on the left side there is a nipple in the frame where a hose is attached, loosen the hose clamp and pull allow the oil to drain till it drips. then remove the filter if you are changing the filter at this time. To avoid cavatation of the oil pump leave the hose of and pour new oil in the oil tank. put the hose back on once it comes out looking new. then add 2 bottles of oil. start the bike let it run for about 2 minutes. stand her straight up, it helps to sit on the bike while doing this, then turn off the bike. let her sit for about a minute then check the oil level with the bike still upright. fill as needed.
