HD makes a weight of oil they call "Sport-Trans" that is made for use in the Sportster primary. Or, you can use any 30W non-detergent oil.
recently bought a 883 up. to 1200 with no manuel need to know what kind of oil i should use and where to add this oil also where is the oil drain plug thanks
The recommended type of oil for a 2003 Harley Davidson Sportster 883 is 15 W 50. This oil can be purchased at any cycle shop and most auto parts stores.
should be 20-50 wt harley oil but check with your dealer first..
The transmission and crankcase are one piece on a Sportster.
if using your bike in the summer use sae 20w50 but for starts below 50 degrees use sae 10w40
Needs to be 20W-50. Should use a synthetic as it will reduce your summer temps by about 20 Deg. F.
20w50 Harley Davidson motor oil If you can't get H-D brand oil, you could use any brand 20w50. Stay away from synthetics. I stuck with H-D 20w50. Good luck!
Yes Chevylows10 you are correct you use 20W-50 in the Primary not gear oil. I recommend Amsoil MCV 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil I've been running in my 1990 FXR with no problems. Hope This Helps.
DOT 5 is best, do not mix or use dot 4 or dot 3/
Use HD oil only and if you can afford use synthetic
AnswerMobil1 V-twin 20w-50 in my engine and Mobil1 75w/90 gear oil for the tranny will work fine, or buy the 32 oz's for the tranny at your HD dealer.Don't use trans oil.Sportsters use H.D. primary and transmission lube. You can also use 20/50 H.D. oil. Don't ever run your sportster without transmission oil!
