Fish do not hear in the same way as us. If you closely observe the sides of a fish you will see what seems to be a dotted line running from behind the fishes gills all the way along the fishes body down to the tail. (some fish have two of these lines) This line is called a "Lateral Line" It consists of tiny nerve endings that are very sensitive to many things including vibrations. Sound is simply vibration so this "Lateral LIne" is what a fish uses to hear things instead of ears.
