Well it is a very good idea to have a lot of variety in your goldfish's diet. I feed my goldfish a combo of flakes and pellets (the pellets are available at the link posted below) and that seems to work very well. Along with the flakes and pellets I like to treat my goldfish with any of the following: freeze-dried krill, freeze-dried tubi-fex worms, live or freeze-dried brine shrimp, frozen daphnia, freeze dried or frozen bloodworms,(another option is to cultivate your own mosquito larva at your home by laying out a shallow dish of water, also another option is to feed your goldfish cleaned/chopped up earthworm). Since goldfish are omnivoures they also enjoy fresh fruits and veggies: watermellon, orange slices, bannana, deshelled green peas, and spinach. Goldfish will also like being able to do some natural grazing in your aquarium if you are willing to grow duckweed and elodea. Hope this helps :)
When your baby Goldfish reaches 2 days Old, try to feed it a Crushed egg yolk of Hard-boiled egg and Oatmeal paste.
Then, after it reaches 2 weeks, feed them with Brine Shrimp.
When it's at 3 weeks old, powdered foods can be used.
In first 4 weeks, feed 3x each day.
Up to 4 months, feed 2x each day.
4 months, Once daily.
(Feedings should be as much as they can eat in 20 minutes)
You should do a partial water change every week or so depending on how many fish you have, and how big your tank is. If your tank is somewhat full, the fish will produce more waste. If stirring the gravel reveals debris, more frequent water changes are indicated. When in doubt, more often is better.

Goldfish are a domestic species created by humans, they dont come from the 'wild'.
But they are bred from wild carp, which are omnivores. They eat anything they can find, plants, algae, insects, smaller fish, and small water creatures.
When you see goldfish picking at rocks and mouthing the gravel they are picking at bits of edible stuff thats laying about.
Where goldfish are living 'wild' like they are in a local park here, they revert back to their carp ancestors food hunting habits and just eat whatever they can find.
I put some baby(1") comets in an old swimming pool once, did nothing else. After a year they had grown to 6" long. There was plenty of algae and various insects falling in, so they were well fed.
