Probably a faulty blend door actuator. Remove the glove box to gain access to the actuator. Replace the actuator with a new one.

Why does 2000 Eddie Bauer explorer heater only works on high?

The blend door is on a vertical axis in the Explorer and it sounds like when you set the fan to high, you are blowing the door to a position where the heater core is open. The root cause of the problem is a broken blend door. Once the door breaks, it "blows in the breeze" and there are different combinations of turning corners hard, hitting bumps, changing fan speed, switching mode, etc. that will get temporary heat. The blend door has to be replaced to regain control of the system. This is a common failure on the Explorer and is an expensive fix at the dealer. Follow my user name to my Bio Page for a pointer to the HeaterTreater web site. This site has diagnostic information on this particular problem and an inexpensive fix. ford4me

AC works great but there is no heat - hoses are flowing new thermostat - Ford Explorer?

This sounds like a Blend Door problem. The problem is that the blend door in the plenum is stuck in the A/C position and will not reposition to allow heat. There are two possible issues. 1: The Acuator has snapped off (plastic breaks) 2: The Blend Door is broken (plastic hinge broke) There are related articles to fix both of these conditions

2004 Ford Explorer heater problems clikcing noise?

It is either a broken blend door, or a broken actuator motor. Typically to fix this problem, a mechanic will disassemble the entire dash, and replace the plenum box. Unfortunately this is an expensive fix because it is labor and parts intensive. There is a DIY solution called heatertreater. They provide instructions on how to access the blend door by removing the glove box, and replacing the blend door without removing the dash and plenum assembly. Broken blend doors are a common problem among Ford explorers, and most heating and A/C issues in late model Ford explorers are directly caused by a malfunctioning blend door.

Blend door actuator 99 explorer?

The actuator is located on top of the heater box and can be accessed by fully opening the glove box and looking in the upper left hand corner. Generally, the actuator motor is not the problem, but a broken blend door. For information on how to diagnose and fix the problem, you can check at www.heatertreater.net. This is a very common problem and the fix is very expensive at the dealer. HeaterTreater is a cheap, easy alternative. cgallen
