The water pump is driven by the timing belt. The timing belt has to come of first. To do this you take the splash shield out from the inner fender. The serpentine belt must come off. Then, put a block of wood under the oil pan and raise the motor to remove the motor mount on that side. Take off the timing cover. Release the belt tensioner. Take the belt tensiioner off. Then, you can take the water pump off. The camshaft and crank pulley has to be in line with marks on the block. If you don't get the timing back right it won't start. Even if it's off a little bit it will run, but have no power.
