Sharks will usually sleep in a moving ocean current so that water flows through their gills constantly. plus they never really sleep as like you or I do their bodies are always in motion If their bodies are not in motion, they will sink.

Do sharks sleep?

Nurse sharks are the only species that appear to sleep, others remain in motion to force water over the gills so they can breathe.Human scientists do not know whether or not sharks sleep. See related link [1] below.Yes, sharks sleep. Some sleep have to move while sleeping because oxygen must continuously flow into their gills in order to obtain the oxygen they need to live. Others are able to stay still and force oxygen rich water to flow over their gills. Sharks also do not go into a deep sleep like humans do.Shark sleepSome say a shark never sleeps. It is unclear how sharks sleep. Some sharks can lie on the bottom while actively pumping water over their gills, but their eyes remain open and actively follow divers. When a shark is resting, they do not use their nares, but rather their spiracles. If a shark tried to use their nares while resting on the ocean floor, they would be sucking up sand rather than water. Many scientists believe this is one of the reasons sharks have spiracles. The spiny dogfish's spinal cord, rather than its brain, coordinates swimming, so it is possible for a spiny dogfish to continue to swim while sleeping. It is also possible that a shark can sleep in a manner similar to dolphins.[31] In this situation, one half of the brain sleeps at a time, thereby allowing the shark to be half conscious while sleeping.Sharks do not sleep, so if they stopped swimming to go sleep they would die. If all sharks slept They would be a endangered SpeciesMany researchers agree that sharks in sleep mode are almost in a trance-like state. Although several species of sharks can rest on ocean floors or reefs, a resting, swimming shark can be easily identified by its slow swimming mode. An alert shark is swimming much faster. How do pterodactyls obtain oxygen?

Pterodactyls do not obtain oxygen at this time because they are extinct. While they existed, they probably obtained oxygen in the same way that birds today obtain it through the use of lungs.

Where do shark sleep?

Most sharks do not sleep. If they stop swimming....they will die. They need water running through their gills to get oxygen.However.....some sharks, like the Nurse Shark, can stop swimming for a while & have a snooze.

How do sharks sleep?

Its true.Sharks swim while they sleep. The reason they do that is because in order to breathe they need water running through their gills all the time.So when they sleep they move to keep breathing. If they stop moving THEY CANT BREATHE AND WILL DIE!!

What is the only animal that never sleeps?

Some people think that sharks never sleep because they need to keep moving in order to breathe. However, some sharks need to keep moving to do this, while others don't. Some sharks have spiracles, a small opening behind their eyes, that force water across the shark's gills so the shark can rest. Other sharks do need to swim constantly to keep water moving over their gills and their bodies, but sharks can swim without using all of their brains. These sharks have active periods, and restful periods, rather than undergoing deep sleep like we do. They seem to be sleep-swimming, with parts of their brain resting.

Why can sharks stay under water longer than whales?

Sharks have gills to extract oxygen whereas whales , being mammals , have lungs from which they get their oxygen . Whales need to surface in order to access oxygen while a shark is not burdened with this necessity thus being able to stay underwater indefinitely .
