In the Pali Canon, the Buddha said he had come to teach two things: The cause of suffering, and the end of suffering. He did so in what are called the Four Noble Truths.

Buddhism itself does not profess to hold any key to solving the world's problems, but teaches that through loving kindness, compassion, inner and outer peace, charity, and mindfulness, one can cure their own ills, and in the process, individually help others.
