How do the older generation justiy what they have done to this planet and are they worried that their children may not have future because of the pollution they have largely contributed to?

Answer: How can you blame the older generation? In my youth we did not know we were doing damage to the environment, it is this generation that needs to do something about it now, global warming warnings have been around now for a few years but not 30 plus years ago as you are trying to state. It is this generation that needs to act and not try and blame the older generation for doing something that they did not realise was bad. This generation Knows all about the damage and is still not doing nowhere near enough about it!! Answer:

Any question that starts with the premise that there is a good "us" and a bad "them" is hard to answer.

It is the older generation (Baby Boomers) that saved the Great Lakes from phosphate pollution, worked to produce the concept of sustainable development, initiated the Montreal Protocol to ban CFCs, passed the Kyoto Accord, worked to ban smoking, passed most existing human rights legislation, saw the end of Apartheid, started most o the recycling activities, protected wildlife, ran Green Peace, protested wars, eliminated smallpox and a host of other things. Granted they did a lot of things that messed things up and failed to heed now obvious warnings, but hey did come to see the errors of their ways and are trying to correct the problems. The present problem is that the older folks are ready to retire, but companies bribe them to stay on as there is no one to hand off to coming up through the system. Older folks view the movie "Idiocracy" as a glimpse of the future.
