They don't, Independence Day is a American holiday. Independence day is the day that America got there independence. Kenya is not in America, so they have no reason to celebrate that holiday.

Also Called Jamhuri Day. Kenya gained it's independence from the UK on December 12, 1963. When Kenya was establishes as a Republic, Jomo Kenyatta became Kenya's president, in a year. The Kenyan African Democratic Union, a minority coalition, joined KANU in 1964. After president Kenyatta died on August 22, 1978, Vice President, Daniel Arap became interim president, and then on October 14, he was sworn into Presidency.
Jamahuri Day falls on a weekend, but the following Monday may be off. They celebrate it by parading through streets and children go to statuims to watch matches, eat, and sing.
