Original answer - If you had some one drooling all over your neck and wanting to suck every little drop out of your body, you would be scared
Vampires would sometimes taunt their victims, mock them. Possibly drain them of blood slowly, maybe even infict some amounts of pain, but still keep victims alive until the vampires no longer needed them. It is said vampires have mental powers and can also torture and frighten mortals through their minds ect.

However, in myths, folklore, tales, and novels alike, blood is almost always the focal point of the vampire's desire and is what attracts them to their victims; they drink it to sustain their own lives.
