Best advice is to get the Harley Shop Manual for your particular year Sportster. They have a 3 page diagnostic chart in mine for 1998. Follow through the test procedures outlined to tell if the ignition module or a related part is bad.
You may need to make a special wiring harness test cable to be able to check certain voltages while the module is connected.
The only way to test a module without buying a lot of expensive equipment is to take it to AutoZone or Oreillys or Napa. They will put it on the testing machine and test it for you free. Sometimes a dealer will test it for you but with a 91 model you will do better by going to the parts houses.
The 1991 Ford Probe spark ignition module can be found on the firewall in the engine compartment. The ignition module will be on the drivers side of the firewall.
The Ignition Control Module is on the top left hand side of the engine under the Ignition Coils.

Regarding a model 1997,2 liter sonata, there is not an ignition control module as such.
