If it has a transmission dip stick for checking the fluid level, you add fluid at the same location. If there is no way to actually check the level, it may have a sealed for life transmission. You need an owner's manual or call a VW dealer.
I have a 2000 passat 2.8 v6 wagon, and have owned a 1999 passat 2.8 v6 sedan. I have been told by VW service departments that the AUTO trans units are SEALED so you cannot add fluid! Not sure about manual trans.

You add auto tranny fluid through the tranny dip stick tube. Usually need a long stemmed funnel. That's it. Good luck.
Same place you check it.
Nope
I guess that you are puzzled by the lack of a transmission dipstick....there isn't one! See the following site for an illustrated guide to changing/checking the auto-transmission fluid. http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/ Enjoy
