First thing to do is make sure all rollers and slides are in good shape. To do this you need to remove them. First to do is remove door panel. Remove door grasp handle (2 screws) Remove front and rear panel holders (front and rear on door body) Remove lock knob. When these are all removed you can remove panel by sliding forward and past door handle.
Adjustments
You will now see 2 half inch bolts on rear upper shell that attaches the top of rear slider. This adjusts outward and inward If you follow the track to bottom you will see the single bolt holding the bottom of track. About 4" down from top of track you will see another half inch bolt with what looks like a standard screw in the middle. That is exactly what it is and is one of the adjustments. The screw part adjusts the 'pitch' of the track by screwing inward or outward. To do this loosen the nut.
For the front it is much the same except the top track will be held by four (4) bolts. The two outer are for adjusting out and in (as the rear) while the two inner ones will adjust front and back. Again there will be the one with the screw in the middle that adjusts pitch (twist)
Use small adjustments as it is kind of a feel as you go operation, however to have good results the sliders and tracks must be in good condition.
Window removal
You may be able to see the rollers, however if there is dragging then they should at least be cleaned. To do this remove the lower access panel (6 5/16 screws) Lower the window about half way and loosen (not remove yet) the nut holding the front of window to the track. Do the same for the rear. Remove the bolt holding forward track slider to window. This is done by 'feel' as you cannot see it. While holding the window (a helper is good to have, but can be done alone) remove the nuts from front and rear, push bolts (or tilt window lightly inward) and remove glass.
The track that the window is attached can be removed by sliding forward off rear roller then back past front roller. It may be tight depending on how old grease is and how much crud has accumulated. Clean this, regrease and reinstall. The front and rear rollers can be removed by removing the top stops from the tracks. If either is loose or flattened then replace. The vertical tracks can be cleaned while in car using long pipe cleaner and alcohol or liberal amounts of carb (my favorite) cleaner. When cleaned, regrease. For proper cleaning the tracks can be removed by removing the bolts mentioned in 2nd paragraph. Before removing mark all related bolts and their position. When out clean, regrease and reinstall.
The sequence of parts on bottom of window are: (from front to rear) bumper stop (facing inward), slider for front track, front window holder to slider, rear window holder to slider, rear bump stop (facing outward)
Sequence of bolts/holders: long bolt with 1 1/4" thin flat head, rubber gasket, plastic spacer, nut. Pay attention to how these are on car, if not replaced correct then bottom of glass can be broken when tightened.
Hope this helps, Don.
You don[t adjust it. If it isn't tracking right something is bent or broken.
you don't you replace it
The power window travel for a 77 Corvette is adjusted by bolts that are in slotted holes. Remove the door panel. Make small adjustments to each adjustment slot until the window travels properly.
1978 was the 25th Anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette. Changes made were a new fastback rear window, special editions of Silver Anniversary and the Indy 500 Pace Car, as well as redesigned dash and instruments.
Hi, What year corvette are you working on?? If its a C-3 there are a number of places to adjust depending on what the problem is. If you take the door panel off, you will see the two tracks that hold the window in place. At the top you will see 4 blots per track that will adjust most of the window.
