You can adjust the valves, on your Caterpillar 3406 diesel engine, by turning the engine to the number one spot. Adjust the number one valve with the adjustment screw. Move to the number two spot and so on.
i adjusted tappet on cat engines by turning the engine first piston no.1 in TDC and check all (intake/exhaust) valves in close position,or follow maintenance guide book ,then check again when piston no.1 on exhaust stroke the same procedure be taken. or do it by turning the engine till the individual piston on TDC as perengine firing order and adjust both valves
To run overhead on a c7 Cat engine, you will have to adjust the valves in order to return them to where they should be. In order to do this you will need feeler gauges in order to bring it back to where they were set by the factory.
You can adjust the injection pump on your 3406 Caterpillar engine by turning the adjustment screw on the top of the fuel pump. The adjustment screw controls how much fuel the pump sense to the engine.

Well, it's going to depend on wheelbase, what type of dump body you have, what your drivetrain consists of, etc. The last T800 tandem dumps I drove... with a steel split gate rock tub, C11 Cat engine, and 10 speed transmission, I had a tare of around 24,500. With a steel dirt box, C10 Cat engine, and 10 speed transmission, I had of around 22,500.
