Randomly an animal may wander onto your farm. You have the option of posting the animal on your wall. Your friends can then adopt the animal. You cannot adopt the animal that you found.
In order for you to adopt an animal. One of your friends has to "find" an animal on their farm and post it. It will come up on your home page with a link to adopt the animal.
If you want an animal other people won't get before you, make another facebook account. Go on to Farmville on that account and leave it for 10-20 minutes. A box will appear saying either someone needs help on their farm or an animal needs adopting. If the animal box appears, click help the animal and post it on the wall. If the other box appears, close it.
Go on to the account you want the animal on, and adopt it. Do this as many times as you like for unlimited animals!
You can only adopt an animal if you have friends playing Farmville. If they publish to your news feed that they found an animal on their farm and it needs a home, this is your chance to adopt it. Below that post, you will see a link saying 'Adopt', or something similar. Click this, and it will take you to your farm. There, you can adopt your animal and keep it.
