Well, be honest! Some factors in a job include (in no particular order): - The job itself - The office or work environment - Your boss - Your co-workers - The hours of the job - The location - The salary - The benefits - Employee extras (office parties, a paid gym membership, etc.) ~ T

When performing employee surveys, I've seen many cases where ethical business practices are considered most important by employees and management. If the job itself is your focus, performing ethically, knowing that you contribute in a significant way, and knowing that the results are valued are usually considered admirable job values. Concern about whether the pay is far, if the rewards are ever increasing or whether you can earn additional time off are not "values" and are usually perceived as more self centered and therefore not impressive in a job candidate.

Employers love enthusiasm so say that because you're highly motivated, you're looking for a challenge. Also, saying you're looking for a job with good progress for career progression and development will show your employer that you're going to stick around.

Example answers:

  • Good experience
  • To rise up within the company
  • A good challenge
  • A good opportunity to show you I am a good employee
  • To learn new things

Never say money and never mention the benefits the job offers you (company car, etc) - The employer will see this as you only being interested in the money, not the job itself.

Determine if the person being interviewed is the right person for the job...

You answer with what is most important to you: "This job matches the goals that I have been preparing for"; "This job provides the salary that I am looking for"; "This job is in the location that I like"; "This company/organization is the type I've been looking for". Always do your homework before an interview. Know what the position is and what the requirements are. Know as much as you can about the company/organization. Review your matching qualifications and experience for this particular opening. Have this information already in your mind and you won't have much difficulty answering the interview questions.
