To become lead guitarist in a band, you need to be the best guitarist of the group.
Not true. In order to be a lead guitarist, you must have at least a basic understanding of Music Theory. You can play any lick you want, but if it does not fit, it will sound horrible.
Actually, you must be the most skilled LEAD guitarist in the group. That means a skill at hitting individual notes cleanly, with feeling, and with speed. You must be able to transition between scales easily, and improvise occasionally. This is different than being the rhythm guitarist which involves keeping steady time, knowing your chord theory, playing all the notes in a chord cleanly, and making complex rhythms and changes within a chord with one hand while playing out a complex rhythm with your right hand.
First, you would get some training in music. For you, it might be voice training and, learning to play an instrument. Knowing how to read music and learn how it works is a useful thing when you are working in the music field. You seem to have the enthusiasm, now you just need the discipline to learn what you need to and to practice. Eventually, you will have to get out there with your singing and playing, which will take personal contacts and perseverance.
Take vocal lessons. Become better and better. Create your own band, or advertise that you are a trained vocalist and you are willing to be a lead singer. You may want to begin as a back up singer so you seem more experienced. Bands love experienced members, and you would be more likely to be accepted. If someone is looking for a replacement and will take anyone, that may not be the best job to take. Its better to be something bands have to earn and not someone who is desperate. Hope this is helpful.

Yes, Def a good brand for a beginner to intermediate player. Brands don't really have as much to do with being for a intermediate player or not, its really about what the guitar is made of, what type of electronics it uses, high action, low action etc. Play it before you buy it, but these are nice sounding guitars all around.
