You really can't. There isn't any excuse, like possible missing a speed limit change, or being clocked incorrectly. If the officer saw you go through the intersection without stopping you are pretty much stuck.
Now if the officer couldn't see you when you were stopped at the intersection, say you stopped 5 or so feet back from the line and were behind a building, you might be able to contest it. But if he couldn't see you, chances are that you couldn't see whether it was safe to proceed, which would be about the same penalty wise.
