If you are under 18, you won't be able to pursue modeling or getting an agent without having a parent or guardian 21+ with you. So if you are underage, it will be in your best interest to do your research and get information from talent agencies and modeling agencies and familiarize yourself with the industry and how it works. After you've learned what you need to know, sit down and talk with your parents seriously and describe the process. Be sure you can answer any questions they may have. This may show them how serious you are. Have a plan for how to balance both school and modeling or acting. Decide if you want to model part time or full time and how that would affect your plans for the future (college). In the end if they still don't approve, then you will probably have to wait until you are 18 and able to make the decision for yourself.

If you are 18 or older and want to pursue it then go ahead. You can at least ask your parents to support you regardless of whether you make it or not. Tell them they don't have to agree with what you're doing but make sure to let them know how much it would mean to you if they would at least offer support and not tell you "I told you so" if it doesn't work out.
