What is a STNA?
An STNA is a State Tested Nurse Aide/Assistant. I have also seen in job descriptions: CNA (Certified Nurse Aide/ Assistant) and POCT (Point of Care Technician. STNA's are very valuable to a LTCF or hospital. They are at the bottom of the nursing chain, but do many important tasks from catheter care to bathing patients. One will attend a class and learn the skills, then he/she will be tested by the state (Written and Skills).

Certified Nursing Assistant Training Classes?
Certified nursing assistants do not have the easiest job and they do not make the most money for what they do. The classes are taught very quickly. Lessons are gone over in one class and tested on in the next. One of the requirements for being a nursing assistant is sympathy for the patient they care for. If there is no compassion for others, there is no reason to be a nursing assistant. The nursing assistant is one of the first people that patients will see if they live in a nursing home. They bring the patient their breakfast and help them to eat their meal. The morning rounds start early for many nursing assistants. They are given between 10 and 12 patients to care for during the day, depending on the size of the facility they work in. After all of the patients have had breakfast, the trays are picked up by the assistants. Each patient is cared for one at a time unless there is an emergency with someone else. The assistant will begin with the first person on their list. As they enter the room, they need to wear gloves and have a mask if there is anything contagious. Patients who cannot get out of bed on their own need the most help. This is where the nursing assistant will spend most of their time. When a patient is completely dependent on someone else to take care of them, the nursing assistant needs to have the most patience. The patient will be placed in a wheelchair while the assistant changes the sheets and blankets on their bed. Hospital corners and clean sheets must be used at all times when changing beds. The patient will then be taken to the shower room and given a bath by the assistant. Clothing will be chosen for the patient to wear that day. Sometimes the patient can pick their own clothes and all the assistant has to do is help them get dressed. The assistant continues this pattern all day until they see their last patient.

State Tested Nursing Assistant courses are often offered at community colleges, and some coursework can even be done online. I don't think there are a free schools overall for STNA training, but you may be eligible for financial aid, nursing scholarships, and federal loans for health care education.

How much certified nursing assistant earn?
A certified nursing assistant can start off earning minimum wage. The key word here is certified. A CNA or certified nursing assistant has completed the hours of education required to be considered "certified" and ready for the next step which is taking a state test. you can work in a facility for at least 90-120 days before you have to take the state test. The state test consists of two parts, the skills and the written test. For the skills part, you would demostrate different tasks to a state instructor, showing competency of important tasks required for your job. The second part is written which consists of multiple choice questions that demonstrates your knowledge classroom material presented during classes. Once you are state tested, meaning you passed the state test, your can earn up to $14 an hour. Being state tested can also offer a wider range of job opportunities like working in an hospital or group homes.
Is the nursing process similar to the public health nursing process?
nursing process is the same no matter what setting it is applied in. The only difference is the context. Public health nursing has a much broader and deeper knowledge base than bedside nursing. In Canada all nurses are required to have a knowledge base at the level of public health nursing as an entry to practice competence...this is tested on the CRNE or Canadian Registered Nurse Exam which all nurses must pass to obtain a nursing license.
