Well. You do have to realize that horses and ponies can be VERY pricy! You have to pay for training, lessons, saddles, equipment, sometimes grain, hay, treats, vet and farrier bills. Some places let you work off board and lessons. You need to be very nice, and make her breakfast in bed. Preferably on a Saturday or Sunday. Then, do whatever she wants. Before she tucks you in, or you all go to bed, bring up the question. You will have to prove to her you can handle it. It is best to take lessons first, then get a very experienced rider go with you to get it and pick it out. It involves lots of work, but pays off! You will have to work very hard to show her....
