How to Boil Water in PVC Pipe
I have been building wood steaming boilers, not PVC steam boxes, for about 2-1/2 years now and using PVC to boil the water in and produce steam. I use sch. 40 PVC and the correct cleaner and cement to go with it. PVC is rated at a much lower than it will really handle. I have run this steaming system for more that 12 hours at a time without any problems and complete safety. If you want more info about this, contact: woodsteamingsystems@Yahoo.com. Ernie

You cannot actually compare a unit of distance to a pure number. It's like asking, which is bigger, ten pounds or 53 degrees Fahrenheit. They are not the same thing.
Mixing salt with ice accelerates the melting of ice causing an endothermic solution gathering heat from the environment. It lowers the temperature. Ten pounds of ice and ten pounds of salt was used by Fahrenheit to arrive at the temperature now used as zero degrees Fahrenheit.
