If your employees choose to unionize, you cannot. (Unless you are the TSA and have the President declare you have no rights as an employee.) Generally, attempting to stop employees from forming or joining a union is an unlawful labor practice and can carry severe penalties against the employer.

Your best chance is simply to treat your employees in such a manner that they see a union as an unnecessary cost to them instead of seeing the union as someone that will help them fight an unreasonable and uncaring boss.

First, not all workplaces may be represented by a Union. Those that can, if enough employees file a request with the Labor Board, and election is held with workers voting yes/ no. If a majority of workers choose to be represented by a Union, then they will be.
