At the risk of being flip, it depends on what you are willing to pay. I have an original Bob Ross painting and have researched the internet for hours. I have seen reports of value from $8,500 to $250. i inquired with one of the art valuation websites and they said mine was worth $200 to $250 because he was so prolific and his style was so redundant. There are two on ebay right now asking $5000 and $2500. It has been several days and no bids. So I say mine is worth $9000 and that is as accurate as I have seen so far. Somehow I doubt there is anybody out there that wants buy it.
My local PBS stations run Bob Ross programming all the time! I enjoy it over and over. Check your listings for all the PBS channels you receive. Each community is different. If he isn't on the air where you are, you can buy a DVD of his lessons. Hobby Lobby carries them. Good luck!

There's no foolproof way to get an original painting; just buy a painting and hope it's not fake.

Well, it doesn't look like there is an art school as such, but Bob Ross does certify instructors, and they are listed on his website: http://www.bobross.com/ (click on the "Certified Instructors" link on the left side of the page). You can also buy instructional videos of Bob himself on that site.

Most of those happy little trees have a happy little home in Virginia at the Bob Ross Inc. headquarters. According to the company’s president, Joan Kowalski, Ross gave many paintings away over the course of his life, but the company still owns over 1,000 of his iconic paintings and plans to hold on to them. However, the Smithsonian did acquire a few pieces in 2019 including:paintingsan easel used in the first season of The Joy of Paintingand fan letters. The museum currently has no concrete plans to display them, but eventually, they’ll go up in the National Museum of American History.

Sometimes there will be two original paintings. I've gotten it before. Just be careful, sometimes when you think the painting is original, it can be a forgery. Both Tom Nook (if you try to sell it, he won't buy it or give you only 10 Bells) and Blathers (will tell you it's a forgery when you try to donate it) can tell you if it's forged. If Blathers tells you, the name will be "forged painting" after you try to donate it.
You'll have to buy most of them in Redd's tent. But two of them (Famous & Fine) can only be bought and donated to the museum, you'll have to buy in at Tom Nook, as a "Spotlight Product".
