i think at present only nationalised banks are permitted to import gold from other contries to India,and only some refineries like minerals and metal corp. India companies are able to get from the banks,so i think we cannot buy gold from banks.
also you can buy in icici and hdfc banks,but the rate is higher as +10 prcent to market price.
go to a local jewellery store and ask for 99.5 bar at market price +2 percent and check the quality in gold assayers(in India there r many gold assers available in cities costs only 50-200 per assay report)
