We recently purchased a rural home in Wisconsin. We moved in just prior to the heavy snowfalls in 2007. Plowing out the driveway was a monumental chore which I would like to eliminate this year. Any suggestions on how to properly install a snow fence?

Answer:

When placing a snow fence or tree windbreak, consider that the protected downwind area will generally be 10 to 15 times the height of the fence or trees. For example, an 80% solid, 12-ft high windbreak fence will protect an area 120 to 180 ft downwind. Also, most of the snow will drop within roughly the first 25% of the protected area. For the example of the 12-ft high fence, most of the snow would pile up within 30 to 45 ft of the fence.

A 4-ft high fence will provide 40-60 feet of downwind protection with most of the snow piling up within the first 10 feet.

What are the specialities of spring seasons?

Great Men and the Changing Seasons of Their Lives Take Abraham Lincoln. We often remember him as the president who saved the Union and as the Great Emancipator. But before Lincoln enjoyed the fruitful spring of his tenure as U.S. President, he endured a horribly long and barren winter filled with failure after failure, and setback after setback. Lincoln lost six elections, failed in several businesses, lost his first love to typhoid fever, and had a nervous breakdown. But Lincoln had the wisdom and understanding to not incessantly kick against the pricks of life's failures. He had the humility to admit that he was "the subject of the divine force-call it fate or God or the 'Almighty Architect' of existence," and that he wasn't the captain that was guiding life's ship. However, Lincoln's acceptance of his lot in life didn't lead to docile complacency. While he didn't feel he was the captain of the ship, he didn't see himself as just an "idle passenger" either. Lincoln saw himself as a "sailor on deck with a job to do."1He kept trudging along. He continued to prune, graft, and sow seeds so that when the spring of his life finally came, he'd be ready for the harvest.

The fastest car in the 1940s?

US car production was dealt a setback because of World War II. In 1940 pre World War II the US produced 4,680,000 cars. Although each decade in history is different the decade of the 1940's is by far the most unusual in U.S. automobile history. This was the only period of time when automobile production stopped for a period of 3-4 years. No cars were manufactured after 1942 due to the advent of World War II. Production for civilians did not resume until 1946 .Early 1940's saw the first time luxury cars started rolling off a production line. A car showed the wealth and status of its owner. Cars like the Delahaye 135 convertible whose top speeds reached 95 mph, the Delahaye was the ultimate 1940 luxury car.Source: http://www.anythingaboutcars.com/1940scars.html _After World War II, Toyota was kept busy making trucks, but by 1947 it began making the Model SA, called the Toyopet. The Toyopet was not powerful and had a low top speed -- 55 mph from a 27 horsepower engine -- but it was designed to be cheap, and to handle the rough roads of postwar Japan. source: "http://www.anythingaboutcars.com/1950scars.html"
