Take for example: 75°57′8″W, a line of longitude. We all know that lines of longitude measure the time zones.

There are 360 degrees of longitude, and there are 24 hours in a day. Therefore, an hour would be 15 degrees longitude (360/24).

75° would be the number of degrees of longitude. If we take 75 and divide it by 15, we get the number of hours that we want, in this case, 5 hours.

57′ would be the number of minutes.

8″ would be the number of seconds.

Sometimes, there are even milliseconds. They are the decimals after the number of

Why would you use longitude and latitude when looking at a map?

We use longitude and latitude when looking at a map to calculate time.

How do global positioning systems use elevation point on earth system to find latitude and longitude?

GPS receivers do not 'use' elevation for anything. They use the signals from several satellites simultaneously to calculate the latitude, longitude, and elevation of the receiver's location. It takes a minimum of three satellites to calculate the latitude and longitude, a minimum of four satellites to calculate the latitude, longitude, and elevation, if more satellites can be found the latitude, longitude, and elevation calculations can be refined more accurately.

How do you calculate time from latitude?

Every latitude extends all the way around the Earth, and is unrelated to the time at any place. If you were to consider longitude instead, the difference in solar time between two longitudes is(longitude #1)degrees minus (longitude #2)degrees/15 hours.

Can time of a latitude be determined by a given information about the time of a longitude?

No, for two big reasons:-- Time does not change with the latitude.-- If you name one longitude, then there's a point somewhere on that longitudefor every latitude.
