You have to have:

  1. a glass aquarium
  2. a heavy duty filter
  3. plants (that aren't poisonous to turtles)
  4. sand/rocks
  5. basking area
  6. extra aquarium with bare needs for quarantine area when sick
  7. food (can include greens and meat depends on breed)
  8. vitimin block( to support shell growth)

A lot of money turtles are not cheap pets and you also need to give a turtle a check up before you bring it home to make sure its not sick.

But after all this a turtle is very cheap. They eat little food and don't need much to be happy.

you want to get a BIG box that the turtle can not chew through. You want to have a heavy bowl of water so the turtle can not tip it. And the bowl has to be big enough for the turtle can get in. Even though they are land turtles the still like to go for a swim every once in a while. You always want to have fresh fruits and veges in the cage. And for bedding you can put cut grass in the cage , make sure the grass is thick enough so the turtle can hide in it. Clean the cage every other day. I have a wild eastern box too, and it is lots of fun. At first it was really shy but once i spent some time with it , it became tame. Have fun with your turtle.

Think of a river and all the stuff it has. That's really all the decorations and stuff you need. Its your choice for sand or gravel for substrate.Sliders need a UVA bulb as with a basking bulb. These special lights can be a bit pricey running around starting at 8$ for basking bulb and around 30$ for UVA.Turtles will like plants fake and real to make them feel safe. The land to water transition is the hardest thing to make.usually a large rock going from side to side would do the trick.I use a foam log found at pet stores it works great but grows algae like weeds in a guarded but algae is natural and is recommended for the tank.Turtles will eat anything they find in the water except rocks. Worms mealworms mennos crickets or commercial diets can all be found at pet stores. Turtles will also need veggies but mine only eats greens and lettuce. DON'T FEED YOUR TURTLE ICEBERG LETTUCE it is not healthy and has no nutritional values. A turtles favorite snack is shrimp. Dried shrimp can be bought at pet stores and food costs about 10$ a month. Turtles should be fed once every 2-3 days but don't fall for their give-me-more trick. If they got their way they would eat a whole container of food in one day. Remember turtles LOVE water depth. They should have at least 4 inches of water. Don't worry they will not drown turtles can spend the whole night underwater. One turtle will need at least a 20gallon tank and you can start putting more turtles in around 60 gallons. YOU NEED A FILTER!!! Without a filter you would have to clean and change his/her water twice a day, disturbing his peace and is a lot hard siphoning because turtles carry salmonella and when you siphon you have a chance of getting contaminated water in your mouth. hint:to save money from buying a lot of gravel, on the land area i put bricks down then gravel on top, covering the brick and without the bricks the rocks would fall right down into the water due to gravity.

Just feed it grass or weeds and let it walk around. MY box turtle liked looking in the mirror. Feed it and play with it.
