Catching a salmon is just like catching any other fish - you'll need a fishing rod, and a lure, you may need a net once the fish is caught to get it into the boat. Salmon can be found both in rivers and in the sea depending on the season, and depending on the area you live in. I would check with your local fish and wildlife bureau to get more information because you'll need a fishing license to fish salmon anyway.
Salmon is caught using several different methods.
Hook and line is one method; effected by one fisherman with his (baited) pole.
Another is gillnetting. Gillnetting is placing a net underwater with holes large enough for fish to just swim through; then get their gills caught. This method has a high level of bycatch, which is unintentionally caught fish (or seabirds, turtles, sharks, dolphins, small whales, etc).
When salmon congregate to swim back upstream to where they were born, a purse seine net is used to catch them. A purse seine has weights on the bottom and floaters at the top, also a "drawstring" on the bottom, which pulls the net tight and does not allow the fish to sound (go down).
Salmon are also caught using trolling. Trolling is when a boat has many lines with bait and hooks. The boat moves slowly through the water, and fish like striped bass, tuna, salmon and sharks chase the bait and bite the hook.
Bears have historically (some say from pre-historic times) caught salmon by hand (paw).
You use this jig from a local tackle shop by the bay there will be multiple hooks on it and you attach a lot of weight on the bottom of it than you move your pole up and Until you get a sardine
IN THE PACIFIC WEST WE USE A COMBO OF TOP GRADE EQMT, FIRST A 80 lb,LEDER NEXT A 3-4oz. LEAD WEAGHT 3 ft. distance apart..NEXT THE STAINLESS STEEL FLASHER, THEN 5 ft leader to the Hooks, THEN SET HEARON TO HOOKS, THRUE THE CENTER OF FISH HEAD, YOU WANT TO HAVE A SLOW SPIN TO IT .. YOU WILL CATCH A SALMON,...BY DONALD
Depend on what you're trying to catch.

Catfish for example you leave the bait at the bottom of a lake. And wait.

Bear catch salmon by standing in the rapids ( by a water fall) and grab salmon out of the water/air. Some bears may also catch fish in calmer parts of the stream.

The Best FishSome say the best fish to fish for are eel, carp, catfish, trout, salmon, whitefish, silure, zander, perch and pike+muskey. Others say bass, whether it's rock, smallmouth, white or largemouth, is the best for fishing. The best fish to catch for bait is a minnow or shiner. They make exelent walleye bait. The best tropical fish for sights is the parrot fish. It is very colourful.Other thoughts:The worst one while fishing is the sunfish. It just takes your bait. It bites a crumb off your bait without touching the hook. It does that until all your bait is gone.Never try and eat your tropical catch. They are usually poisonous.Never ever try and eat a pufferfish if you cleaned it yourself unless you are specially trained.
Bait attracts the creature that you are trying to catch.
yes it happend to me
shrimp are caught using nets. Shrimp eat very small things like plankton so there is no real way to use a bait to actually catch them.
