The fill plug is on the front of the transaxle case, about halfway up.
How do you get the axle out to change the boots on the cv joints
disconnect everything connected to the axle (make sure you label everything and where it came from) line up new axle and follow your lables and reconnect (if you have the axle out may as well change the front driveshaft universal joints while you're at)
take it to a shop
A clicking sound coming from the front end indicates there is something wrong with the axle on that side of the front end and that it might fail. When the clicking sound becomes very audible, have the axle checked. It might cost about $250 to replace the axle. The "axle" is not the type of axle that goes all the way across the car from one wheel to the other. It is only a joint between the front wheel on that side and the steering mechanism.

While it is possible to fit a 2000 Elantra engine into a 96 Accent, some custom fabrication will be neccesary to make the engine mounts fit. You'll also need to swap the factory ECU with the Elantra's since they are not compatible and most of the electrical wiring plugs will not fit each other. The accent's transmission is fully compatible with the Elantra motor. Custom length axle shafts will be necessary also.
