Pick up a Haynes manual for your model for about $15 - $20 at your local auto parts store. It should give you the basics.

The power steering fluid is leaking because somewhere in the power steering system there is a leak. It is possible one of the seals on the steering rack has worn out. That would be a good place to start. It could also be coming from a leaky seal on the power steering pump or from one of the lines.

You may have blown the seal or you may have a leaky power steering pump, in either case you can look at the power steering lines. Follow the lines from the place where you fill the power steering fluid all the way down, look for any signs of a cut or split in the line or any of the power steering fluid on the outside of the line or underneath the line. Also check your driveway to see if a puddle of fluid appears and how quickly it grows.

air in fluid, insufficient fluid, leaky rack, plugged filter/strainer (if present) excessive effort required (at steering stop or wheel blocked), defective pump (internal seals), slipping belt, defective belt, defective pulley, defective belt tensioner are the first few that come to mind, other steering rack noises unrelated to power steering are also possible.

Check for a low power steering fluid level. Leaky power steering pumps are common. When power steering fluid level gets low, air bubbles form in the fluid. As the bubbles pass through the pump, the pump smashes the bubbles which results in a vibration. The pump doesn't like the vibration, so it gets sad and moans like a whiny little biotsh.
