If I understand your question........the rear license plate lights on 2005 C240 have a clear cover with 2 Phillips head screws. Just take out screws to replace bulb. (easier if trunk lid is completely open).

The ECU is located under the floor plate on the passenger side on a 2004 Mercedes c230. The floor plate is attached with three nuts.
The number plate lamp is a complete sealed unit and needs to be replace as such , you cannot just change the bulb. Unplug the unit behind the panel on the rear door and simply push the number plate unit free. Push a new unit ( available on e bay Approx £7.) into position and plug back in.
