follow the top radiatior hose to the engine block housing. the thermostat is located under the housing. 1. drain the fluid into something. remember most anti-freeze is toxic. Animals like it. it tastes sweet to them. 2. Remove the hose, usually a hose clamp holds it in place. loose the clamp to remove the hose.take the housing off. wiggle, or tap lightly with a small hammer at the base of the housing. the thermostat is underneath. It should just lift out. Make sure completely clean both mateing surfaces. If there is rust in the system, this a great time to flush the system to get the crud out. make sure the thermostat is the correct one for your vehicle. The new one should come with the needed gasket. attach the gasket per the manufacture instructions. reassemble. make sure refill the system with the proper type and amount of coolant. It is usually a 50/50mix, or you can get it and mix it yourself. Not difficult. plan on about 1-2hours to do the project. hope it helps. duboff
you will have to pull the tranny out to change it and then you can pop it out with a screwdriver.
A thermostat can be stuck open or closed. If the engine runs to cool it is stuck open. If the engine is running hot it is stuck closed. If you don't have these problems you should'nt have to change it.
Is it an automatic? If so, you may need to change the transmission filter and fluid.
Just remove the bolt that holds it to the front of the engine and take it off.
5 quarts with a filter change. 4 quarts without filter change.
