Remove the inside door panel. Remove the linkage from the key tumbler. Remove the key tumbler retaining nut. Reverse the process to install the new key tumbler.
Yes, but if the key is changed or replacement key is cut it must be reprogrammed. The tumbler from Ford comes with "gates" to rekey the tumbler to the original key.
It helps to know which key tumbler you're talking about. The one for the ignition won't be the same process as the one for the cab doors.
Locksmith or replace locks
Do you want the ignition switch or the key tumbler?
Remove the retaining ring from the top of your 1977 Chevrolet pickup truck ignition key tumbler. Slide the ignition key tumbler out. Remove the wiring harness from the end of the key tumbler.
USUALLY the key and tumbler in this model is held in by a supporting pin on the front or the back of the key and tumbler. Push the pin in with a small screwdriver or an awl. the pull it out. Put the new key and tumbler in the same way push it in until the pin locks in place then turn the key to see if it works. If it works you are finished!!
When you say key tumbler, are you referring to thr ign key cylinder, door , glove box or trunk cylinder. All tricky, most difficult--steering col lock cylinder. Steering wheel, signal switch, must come off.
the ign switch or the key & tumbler ???
Locks have what are called tumblers. Your ignition key turns the lock within the tumbler assembly. The tumblers fall into the groves on the key allowing it to turn. Insert the wrong key and the tumblers are not aligned properly and the key will not turn.A tumbler is a flat-bottomed glass with no handle, foot, or stem.
Key or ignition tumbler is worn. If you cannot remove the key, then you will have to remove the tumbler assembly and replace it. If you can get the key out, then try a key that is not used very often. If it works, have a duplicate made of that key and destroy the other key with the problems.
