it's underneath the rotor in the distributor. you have to take the distributor out to change it.
If it has a distributor it has to come out and be completely disassembled //its under the rotor!!!
If you have the 2.2 L engine in that 99 S10, there is no distributor in that vehicle. It has a DIS (Distributorless Ignition System).
Could be spark in the motor, or the distributor and rotor need to be replaced.
If you remove the distributor cap and rotor you will see it bolted to the plate and it will have electric wires pluged into it. It will be on the right side of the distributor.
It is mounted on the distributor plate under the cap and rotor. On the right hand side of the distributor when looking at it. It will have electrical connectors plugged into it on both ends.
The distributor pick up plate is under the rotor inside the distributor.
There is no distributor cap, only a ciol pack that the plug wires go to
The pickup coil in the distributor? !976 should be an HEI distributor. Take the cap off, unplug the wires going to the distributor, remove the rotor and the pickup coil is under the rotor and held in place with two screws.
Check the pickup inside the distributor and see if its OK. Do you have spark at the ignition coil? Check the wires. Or the cap and rotor assy.
Rotor Under Cap Spins: Clockwise
Bad coil? Bad distributor cap? Bad distributor rotor?
