I just did this after really trying hard to find the answer so I'll post my info here.

The turn signal in the Audi A6 (2001) is built into the hazard flasher relay. See the red triangle just above the radio between the cup holder and the little coin compartment? The plate comes off that covers these three components. Just take a flat head screw driver and work your way around gently popping it off. It's held in place by clips and it will just snap back into place.

After you have the cover removed you will see the flasher unit. Take a thin flat head screw driver and from the top there is a small opening just above the unit. Pry it out from the top. It is attached to a harness and if your Audi is like mine, the wires aren't long enough to come all the way out of the compartment so you just pull until it unhooks.

Now comes the fun part. The wiring harness is difficult to work with because it's not designed to come out of the receptacle far enough to plug in the new flasher unit. Who designs these things anyway? I had to work it out as far as I could with a screw driver and then hold it in place with a screw driver from the back of the unit while I attached the flasher unit and then pushed it back into the socket. Be prepared to suppress curse words you may not have used since your youth. I had to go through this procedure three times before it actually attached and the flasher worked. All in all, it saved about $60 worth of labor so I suppose it paid for Golf for a few weeks.

Where is the flasher unit on Audi tt quattro roadster?

Behind the switch for the flashers. The turn signals and flasher relay are on the same switch where ever the hazard switch is. This is a super easy fix, and the very first fix I did to a car. The part cost $65 at the dealership but you can purchase it online aftermarket for $38. Took me literally 5mins to fix. Audi dealership wanted to charge $190.
