That light coming on when you apply the brakes is your brake sensors, from the front brakes, telling you that it's about time to replace the front brake pads. You still have some time to replace the pads and sensors, maybe a thousand miles would be my guess. Depending on the wear on the rotors (check the lips on the outside edge of the rotors) you might only need to replace the pads, and not the rotors. It's not recommended to turn these rotors, but replace them. It's cheaper to just swap the rotors. You can pick rotors up for under $40.00 each, and pads for around $35.00. Sensors are under $10.00 for the 4 you need. And then the brake grease to apply on the back of the pads is only a few dollars. So for around $125.00, you can have a front brake job, providing you're doing the work yourself. If you take it to a garage, it will cost $3-350.00. Dealerships will probably charge you at least $500.00.
Remove wheels Re-install 2 lug nuts to hold rotor in place Loosen 2 caliper mounting bolts Remove l caliper mounting bolt to allow caliper to swing giving access to pads Remove front pad Use "C" clamp and rear pad to retract piston into caliper Remove and replace rear pad Replace front pad Swing caliper back into place and secure PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO RESET PADS AGAINST ROTORS
Mounted on top of the Master Cylinder next to the firewall, in front of the brake booster, drive's side.
Squeze the caliper piston in with a pry bar or c- clamp and reomve the 3/8 Allen bolts, asembly is easy also
It is mounted on a bracket under the dash at the brake pedal. From there it is self explanatory.
Could be, a frozen/sticky brake caliper, an internally collapsed brake hose, a pinched brake line,
Im sure that the brake pads are worn enough that the rivits that hold the pads on to the metal brackets are rubbung the rotors, or there is no pad left and the brackets are rubbing. Either case you may have to take the rotors off and have them turned to refinish the surface. Rotors on that model cost only 25 $ calipers only about 15$ pads about 15.$ Total brake job front $ 99.00 or less, if u do it your self. While u are at it, check the bearings in the wheel hub, they like to be changed also...... It could also be wheel bearings going out in the front. Parts are usually around 30 bucks but you have to have them pressed into the steering knuckle by someone with a press.
1985 was the first year the RM125 came with a factory front mounted disc brake.
Press and turn
Sticky/stuck caliper slides, sticky/stuck caliper piston, collapsed brake hose, pinched brake line,
A damaged/rusted/warped brake rotor on the right front.
check the adjustment of the brake pads or shoes, check the metering valve or you might have contaminated brake pads/shoes
