Remove fuel tank for access
Sorry, above answer is incorrect. That's old school. You have to remove the rear seat cushion and pull the fuel pump relay. Look at the diagram under the fuse box cover to locate it. In the trunk pull back the carpeting on the right side behind the back seat to expose an elliptical cover with 5 screws securing it. Remove the screws and pry the cover off. Careful not to distort it too much. Remove the two fuel lines by squeezing the white plastic tabs with a needle nose pliers. Fuel will spill, but it won't be too bad. Soak it up with rags. Remove the two wiring harnesses. Now the hard part: Using a small hammer and punch or chisel, tap the fuel pump retaining ring off counterclockwise.
It can be tough. Hose it down with WD40. Lift pump up and remove lock ring and rubber gasket. Pull fuel pump assembly out, rotating it to accommodate the float linkage. There you go. It's out..... Unless, like mine, the plastic housing on the fuel pump is larger than the hole it fits through. This will really pi** you off. It is extremely difficult to get a component out through a hole that is too small for it to fit through. My best guess is that over the years the gasoline has caused the plastic to swell slightly. I got mine out by using thin screw drivers to pry the opposite end of the housing that you CAN pull out of the hole. It's a b*t*h, but doable. Good luck.
