Things you'll need... 1 Crush Washer (don't cheap out, 85 cents is worth protecting the bike. 3 Quarts of Oil (Unless you've opened the engine you will not use all of this oil). 17 MM Box Wrench Metric Socket Set Oil Filter Wrench (Advance Auto Parts cheap junk doesn't work get it from your local bike shop). This is done easiest with two people or a Motorcycle Lift... Remove the Left Protective Casing (the chrome panel behind the Crankcase Housing) but removing the bolt closest to the crank case and the clip from the top inside of the housing. Have one person put their legs around the front tires and hold the bike up straight... While the other person pulls the Oil Drain Bolt back towards the Rear Tire (using a 17 MM Box Wrench as a Socket + Ratchet won't fit on the area between the Radiator Hose and the Bolt (if you have a chain drive wear gloves, that chain can cut your hand should you slip). Once the bolt is loose move the oil catch basin under neath the unit and finish removing the drain bolt (this should be with the bike resting on the kick stand and the Dip Stick Removed to hasten the flow of oil). Once the oil is drained remove the Filter (it is located on the bottom rear of the engine). After this is removed you'll wet the O-Ring on the New Filter with some fresh oil from one of the 3 Quarts and Hand tighten the Filter. After the filter is hand tightened you'll need to apply roughly one spin of the filter with the wrench to ensure that it is seated properly. Next you'll place the Crush washer on the drain bolt with the sharp edge towards the engine... Again, hand tighten the bolt and then using the 17 MM Wrench tighten the bolt until you feel the crush washer give (you should be pulling the bolt towards the front tire to tighten it) and stop as this crush washer is designed to collapse at 22 FT LB of Torque. At this point in time you want to put 2 Quarts of Oil into the Engine and perform the Oil Check procedure (warm the bike up for 3 Minutes and then let the oil drain into the Pan for 3 Minutes as the bike cools down). Now your oil is probably still low so add .2 quarts and recheck the oil (you shouldn't need to warm it up again as the bike temp should be good enough to have all the oil in the pan)... The most this bike should use is 2.4 Quarts if you've changed the filter, 2.2 quarts if you haven't changed the filter and 3 Quarts if you've rebuilt the engine. Once this is done take the bike out for a spin (say 20 minutes or so) and then check around the filter and drain bolt for any leaking... If there's leaking you're going to have to tighten them a little bit more (the drain bolt shouldn't leak if you've felt the crush washer collapse). If everything is good at this point just pop the crank case housing back on (you could've already done this and if you have a chaing I recommend doing this before test riding the bike). One Note, if you've over filled the engine, just drain it again as losing something in your engine isn't really what you want to do and believe me, draining the oil is a lot easier and cheaper than cracking open the right side of the crank case housing.
