The Solara oil change is the same as any other vehicle.

1. Open the hood, remove the oil cap and lift the dipstick a couple of inches (to provide venting for the draining oil)

2. Slide a container (at least 5 quarts) under the oil pan and remove the drain plug.

3. When all the oil has drained, replace the plug and slide the pan forward so it's located under the filter. The filter is located under the exhaust header at the front of the engine. Hint: Place paper towels on the 'top' of the splash guard to catch any oil that spills down the side of the engine. It'll make a mess on the floor if you don't contain it.

4. Lubricate the O-ring on the new oil filter and spin it on. Don't over tighten. About 1/4 to 1/3 turn after the gasket contacts the engine is plenty. Over tightening just makes the filter difficult to remove later.

5. With the drain plug back in the pan and any spilled oil cleaned from the front of the engine (notice there's a little cup that will catch some of the oil. Wick that out with a paper towel) it's time to add fresh oil.

6. The oil type should be what's recommended for your driving conditions in your owners manual. You'll notice the oil cap dictates 5W-30 energy conserving oil.

7. After pouring 5 quarts into the sump (assuming a V-6) start the engine and immediately check for leaks. If everything is fine, shut the engine off.

8. Reset the maintenance reminder light. To do this, turn the ignition key on (don't start the engine) and toggle the odometer to the 'total vehicle miles' reading. Turn the key off. Press and hold the odometer toggle button while you turn the key on again. In a second or two you'll notice the numbers turn to dashes (---------) and then those will disappear. When total miles return to the display you've reset the reminder system. Release the button, turn off the key and drive for another 45 hundred miles. That's when the maintenance reminder will flash at you when you start the engine as a reminder that it's time for another oil change. If you ignore the light, it'll stay on solid after 5000 miles.

Cheers
