When making a world
Click on the button that says "Survival" until it says "Creative".
While playing
There is no way to change gamemodes while playing minecraft unless you are using a mod. TooManyItems mod and Single Player Commands mod are great mods that let you change the gamemode while playing the world. Plus, both don't require modloader or anything like that!

∙ 10y agoTo switch from survival from creative you first need to enable cheats, if you do not have this enabled then a simple way to enable it is to open your world in lan and click the enable cheats. After you've done that the command it /gamemode [your username] 1
