The OEM links are not that great. They wear out pretty quick. Best replacement link is made by Moog. It is much stronger and comes with grease fitting. To replace the links, (Front) remove the tire/wheel. Make sure the car is not lifted by the steering nuckle. You will want the strut/steering nuckle assembly hanging free. The link nuts are 15mm. You will need a metric hex wrench, 6mm I think (not sure though) to hold stud while you unscrew the nut. Use some WD40 on the nut before you start the removal process and the nuts will come off easier. Anyway, remove the upper and lower attching nuts, remove the old link and install the new link. New links (Moog) doesn't have the hex in the stud end like the OEM, they have a 15 MM hex on the back side of the stud to hold while you tighten the nut. Nuts should be torqued to 35 foot pounds. Install the zerk fitting and add a couple shots of grease to each joint. That should about do it. Retorque the front wheels to 100 foot pounds.
I just took my 2002 Ford Escape in for repair and the sway bar cost is around $100.00
Take the ford to a mechanic !!
I had sway bar links replaced on my 2003 Ford Escape. Cost- $220 w/ labor. The parts are pretty cheap of course and easy to install; it's the "book" labor that jacks up the price.
Check with a Ford dealer - there was a recall on the front sway bar links because under certain conditions they could fracture - so they were replacing the left and right front sway bar links under the recall. (Helpfull)
27 ft. lbs.
Put new links in.
Around 30.00 plus labor.
I don't understand what sway bar PINS are.
change the sway bar rubber bushings and sway bar link bushings
A little more information. Year/model. Some sway bar links become loose because of wear and the links continue to work but make a noise when the front end hits a bump. Other sway bar links will break altogether and the vehicle will lean excessivly when going around a corner.
The links go on the end on the sway bar and hook to the suspension. Bushings are used to connect the sway bar to cars frame.
Definitely the sway bar links. Ford uses plastic for the joints.
