Remove the outer taillight assemblies using a Phillips screwdriver #1 size. There are 2 screws for each taillight assembly. When the screws are removed, pry the light assembly from the body of the car. A thin flathead screwdriver is best used for this.
The brake light is located as the closest bulb to the trunk. It uses a bulb type 7443, which is indicated on your light assembly. Simply remove the bad bulb and replace with a new one, reinstall the light assembly, and you're good to go.

the fuses which opperate the brake lights are located in the fuse box in the engine compartment. the relays are to the left of the clutch in a white connection cluster.

In a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer replacing the rear light bulb is relatively easy. First remove the plastic cover from the dome light. Unscrew the light bulb and insert the replacement.
The parking brake light stay lit on the 1999 Mitsubishi Montero sport the parking brake is working and you have not put the light off.
On the lancer its easy just pop the trunk open find out which lights are out and take the screws out that hold the lights in place and pop the bulb out that isn't working by turning it and replace it.

what do you have to do to change the center brake light
I just had to change mine yesterday 4/12/08 you have to open your trunk, look right under where the 3rd brake light is to find wire running to it, twist to pop it out. Hope this helps. B.C.
