If it is like the 2002 ... You open the hatch ... Its a few screws on each side .. You pull the assembly out and change them .. This is MUCH easier than changing a headlamp which I found to be a total pain hope this helps Assuming that a 2004 Trailblazer is like a 2003, do the following: Raise liftgate. Remove the two screws that hold the entire taillamp housing to the body. Take the lamp housing off of the body. Then remove the two screws holding the socket assembly. Disengage the retaining tabs and remove socket assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket and push a new one in. Installation is the reverse of the removal steps.

You have to open the rear hatch like you would to replace the reg. brake lights. Screws should be accessible once hatch is fully open.

If you brake lights are not working on your trailblazer it could be due to a number of reasons. Your fuse could be blown, or your light may no longer work.

If the brake lights do not work on Chevy Venture van 2000, try to disconnect the brake switch. Then short the two contacts of the connector to check if the brake lights are now working.
on the brake pedal under the dash is a brake light switch. that when you depress the brake it turns your lights on. you might wanna check that
