Very simple to do....Just open the glove box, drop the door all the way down. Now look up inside the dash and pop three black tabs loose. Remove filter making sure you note what way it went in,and what side the airflow arrows are on so the new filter goes in the right way. Reverse procedure to install.
OEM filters from the dealer are about $35 with tax,but they can be found much cheaper on places like Ebay,just type search for "cabin filter Chevy HHR"
Take note that many aftermarket non dealer filters don't have the arrows on them though,so if you purchase those type just make sure the filter is pointing the same way you pulled it out.
These should be changed every year for maximum performance,bi yearly if you live in a really dusty area or smoke in your car.
