the coil resistor is a ceramic block on the top of your coil, you just remove the wires attach to it, put some grease on the bolts(on the new one) that attach the wires, and put it back together, to see if your resistor is faulty, just run a wire from 1 pole to the other, make sure you have a good contact.

How do you check if you have a internal resistor or a external resistor coil?

To determine if you have an internal or external resistor coil, you can visually inspect the ignition coil. An internal resistor coil will have the resistor built into the coil itself, making it more compact, while an external resistor coil will require a separate resistor component in the ignition circuit. Additionally, you can use a multimeter to measure the resistance; internal resistor coils typically have a higher primary resistance (around 1.5 to 3 ohms) compared to external resistor coils. Always refer to the vehicle's service manual for specific resistance values for accurate identification.

Remove Distributor,remove drive gear,remove shaft,remove pickup coil.

how does an external resistor connect to ignition coil?

An external resistor connects to an ignition coil by being wired in series with the coil's primary winding. This resistor limits the current flowing to the coil, helping to prevent overheating and ensuring proper voltage levels for the ignition system. Typically, it is connected to the positive terminal of the coil and the ignition switch, while the other terminal of the coil connects to ground. This setup is common in older ignition systems to manage the power output effectively.

How do you change coil pack 1988 olds 98 regency?

To change the coil pack on a 1988 Oldsmobile 98 Regency, first ensure the engine is off and cool. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove any components obstructing access to the coil pack, such as the air intake or engine cover. Unplug the electrical connector from the coil pack, then remove the mounting bolts and take out the old coil pack. Install the new coil pack by reversing these steps, ensuring all connections are secure before reconnecting the battery.

Where is the ballast resistor located on a 1987 Dodge D150?

near the coil on the manifold

What if your ballast resistor is bypassed on your 1973 350 Chevy engine Why?

Eliminating the ballast resistor will cause excess current through the coil, and will cause excess current through the points. When that happens, the points and/or coil will fail prematurely.
